We are not not a clothing brand, we’re building access.

We need your support to fund and grow a community-led initiative reshaping outdoor clothing for disabled people.

[ INTRODUCTION ]

Outdoor clothing has never been designed for every body. It's time to change that.

UN[PARA]LD (unparalleled) is inspiring and enabling disabled people to participate in outdoor and alpine sport by bringing together disabled people, athletes, designers, engineers, repairers and makers to adapt, modify and reimagine outdoor clothing.

Outdoor and alpine clothing continues to be designed around the idea of a "standard" body.

For many disabled people, this means clothing that doesn't fit, doesn't function, or actively prevents participation.

Jackets designed for standing bodies bunch and restrict when seated. Zips can't be operated with limited hand function. Technical garments often fail to accommodate limb difference or changing needs.

As a result, disabled people have spent decades adapting their own clothing—cutting, sewing, modifying and making do.

The problem

Why it matters

This isn’t a lack of interest.
It’s a lack of design.

Clothing that doesn’t work for your body stops you from taking part. You’re not choosing to opt out – you’re being excluded.

Most of us are only ever temporarily non-disabled, whether through age, injury or illness. Designing for disabled people ultimately benefits every body.

Every year, thousands of outdoor garments go unused, while disabled people continue to adapt clothing to meet their needs—we believe the future of adaptive outdoor clothing lies in bringing these two realities together.

‘1.3 billion people live with a disability, which is nearly a quarter of the population. That’s not niche – that’s mainstream.’

[ ABOUT ]

What is UN [ PARA ] LD?

UN[PARA]LD is a community-led initiative exploring the future of adaptive outdoor clothing and participation.

For decades, disabled people have adapted clothing to meet their needs—adding zips, changing closures, altering fit and finding creative ways to make existing garments work for their bodies.

We're interested in what happens when that knowledge is shared.

By documenting adaptations and bringing together people with lived experience alongside designers, engineers, repairers and makers, we're building a new model for adaptive innovation: one that is open, collaborative and built by the people it's designed for.

Because human beings have never been standard.

What if the thousands of garments already in circulation became the raw material for a more inclusive outdoors?

Every year, thousands of outdoor garments sit unused in wardrobes, warehouses and stockrooms.

At the same time, disabled people continue to adapt, repair and modify clothing to make it work for their bodies.

We believe these two realities belong together.

The future of adaptive outdoor clothing isn't just about creating new products. It's about unlocking the potential of the ones we already have.

[ OUR MISSION ]
  • 'There is very little availability, so we end up making do and adapting kit ourselves. But at the end of the day, why should we have to make do?'

    —Sean Rose
    Former Paralympian

  • 'Kit isn't designed for sitting down, the issues are kind of endless really"'

    —Shona Brownlee
    Winter Paralympic Athlete

  • 'The Paralympic race suit has long legs. So she (my partner) has to go and cut them off and sew them shut before my race tomorrow.'

    —Mattew Brewer
    Adaptive Athlete (USA)

  • 'Apart form anything else it gets dangerous - it's a safety issue.'

We're looking for the others.

The people who understand that meaningful change is always a collective effort.

Whether you can contribute lived experience, technical expertise, funding, storytelling or simply your time, we'd love to hear from you. Because nobody creates systems change alone.
